- Nebe, Artur
- 1896–1945Nebe had been a policeman and eminent criminologist in the Weimar Republic and a member of the Nazi Party since 1929. By the start of the war he was a top SD official and head of KRIPO, the Criminal Investigation Department. In January 1942 he was put in the charge of an Einsatzgruppe ordered to exterminate the Jews of Russia. It is uncertain to what extent he carried out his orders. Nebe was involved with the conspirators against HITLER for a long time and in July 1944 was involved in the bomb plot. He was arrested soon after and executed on 3 March 1945. Neurath, Konstantin von, 1873–1956 Neurath served as HITLER’s Foreign Minister from 1932 to 1938. He was not a Nazi but a conservative appointed to the Cabinet by Hindenberg, who resigned his post in opposition to Hitler’s aggressive policies leading to war. In 1939 Neurath was appointed Reich Protector of Bohemia-Moravia, a post which involved enforcing Berlin’s ‘advice’ onto the satellite government of the region. He was forced to retire because of his leniency and was replaced by HEYDRICH. Neurath was tried at Nuremberg for his complicity in starting the war, but was given only fifteen years imprisonment because he had opposed and prevented various activities of the Gestapo and SD in Czechoslovakia.
